Ulysses Club Botswana is quite an active club with a fairly full schedule, considering the distances we have to travel to events. This year we have done a trip to the Buffalo Rally in Mosselbay, South Africa, about 1437km from Gaborone. The majority of the club attended this trip. We will be doing a trip to Buffelspoort this month, to support the South African Ulysses Club AGM and to catch up on the doings of our RSA disgraceful bunch.
We will have our own AGM in June this year, where the normal official matters are address, like changing the committee and discussing the clubs events. Other than that will will have a few breakfast runs and so on.
July is our annual Mpumalanga trip, about 750km from here. This year we will combine it with a track day at Redstar raceway and then off to Nelspruit from where we will scour the mountains and pubs of the Greater Sabie/Hazyview area. This year only 60% of the club will go, but it is still a good number for us.
September will be our annual Mampoer run to Groot Marico. Mampoer is a locally produced “moonshine”, made by farmers in that area. We usually stay at Maruantwane Lodge and are entertained by Johan and Saartjie. Although Johan is in his mid 70’s, he is a formidable consumer of Mampoer and has caused many a novice some serious head aches the next day.
October will be our Men with Balls trip through Botswana. We will do a 1000km’s on Saturday, with a big party in the evening.
November will be our annual trip to Sapa Yopa in Polokwane, South Africa. This is arguably the largest “dayjol” in South Africa, so the 700 odd kilometers there is well worth it.
In December we will do the annual Poison Rally in Kroonstad. This is a weekend affair and is only 450km from here. Our annual year end party will also be in the beginning of December.
Other than these fixed rides, we also have some events with other clubs. RAMBO, a group of clubs from South Africa is planning a major trip/event into Botswana in October. We will be there to support them. Naturally we have breakfast runs on some weekend and some spur of the moment socials too. These can become quite raucous.
Our club currently has 35 member, with a prospect in tow.
